Anticipate
Start packing well ahead of the move. Be sure to have plenty of "filling" material available. Toss aside anything you don't want to bring with you.
Facilitate
Make sure you have enough wardrobe boxes. You really don't want to fold all of your hanger clothes and then iron them after you unpack!
Organize
Pack one room at a time.
Classify
Label each box with its desired destination (kids' bedroom, garage, storage, etc.).
Prioritize
First pack items for storage. For example, if you are moving during the summer, pack your winter clothes first.
Systemize
Pack heavy items (anchors, book, tools, etc.) in small boxes. Put linens and towels in medium sized boxes.
Calculate
Be sure to fully secure the bottoms of all your cartons so they will hold the weight of its contents. Packing tape or gummed tape holds more securely than masking tape. Pack heavier items toward the bottom of the box and lighter items toward the top. Also try to keep the weight of each of your boxes below 50 lbs.
